Abayas are cut loose on purpose, which makes sizing simpler than a fitted dress but easy to get wrong if you shop by your usual letter size alone. Two things decide the fit: your height, which sets the length, and your shoulder and bust width, which sets how the open front hangs.
Start with your height
Length is the measurement people regret most. An abaya should finish at the ankle, clearing the floor by a couple of centimetres so it does not catch on stairs or wear at the hem. Measure from the top of your shoulder to the floor, in the shoes you will wear it with, and compare it with the garment length on the product page.
Then shoulders and bust
Because the abaya is open and worn over an inner dress, you do not need room for layers underneath. Measure around the fullest part of the bust and across the back from shoulder to shoulder. If you are between sizes, go with the smaller one for a cleaner line through the shoulder, unless you prefer extra volume.
How our sizes run
The Linen Set comes in S, M and L/XL and fits true to size. Our model is 5 feet 4 inches (163 cm) and wears a size S in every photo on the site. The inner dress and the abaya in each set are cut to the same size, so you order once.
- S: around 5'2" to 5'5"
- M: around 5'5" to 5'8"
- L/XL: 5'8" and above, or anyone who wants more room through the body
These are height guides, not rules. A taller woman who likes a hem that sits higher can size down; a shorter woman who wants the hem to pool slightly can size up.
The hijab is one size
The scarf in the set, like our Liquid Jersey, is 170 by 70 centimetres, long enough for a wrap with a loose end to drape over the shoulder.
